So right off the bat, Collingwood Art Crawl is hands down the best Arts-based event that Collingwood has to offer. I've performed music at it for a couple of years in the past, and both times were incredible nights. Lead by the wonderful Andrea Rinaldo, it's a whirlwind of art, music, and creativity in downtown Collingwood. It's really, really remarkable. If you've never been, this is definitely the year to check it out. It's the 5th annual Collingwood Art Crawl this Saturday night, September 23rd, from 6-10pm. All you have to do is show up in downtown Collingwood between 6-10pm (Hurontario and Simcoe Street is where the bulk of the activity will be happening), and wander around aimlessly whilst taking in beautiful/odd/bizarre/provocative art and a huge variety of musical acts all up and down the streets. It is super cool. Over 40 venues are participating this year, and most of them will be also be providing complimentary food & drink, so you even get to nibble and sip while taking all of this in! (Can you tell I'm excited about this?)
This year is especially close to my heart because I was asked to be the event's Music Coordinator! So for the past few months I've been talking and organizing with all of the musicians that are involved in this year's Crawl. There's going to be a TON of music. Some local, some from out of town, all unique and awesome. Benjamin Dakota Rogers, The Honeyrunners, Ke Nova, Tragedy Ann, Hunnay, Stacey Renee, Dead Winter... there are too many to mention. It's going to be a BLAST!
Here is a sneak peek of the music schedule that I've been working on. (This info is also available at www.collingwoodartcrawl.com.) Some venues are providing their own entertainment as well (like Crow, Gibson & Co., and Tremont), so there are even more musicians that aren't listed on this schedule! But seriously, look at how packed with music this night is...
It's been a ton of organization, and kudos to Andrea Rinaldo, Mark Krause, Meagan Van Kapelle, Will Skol, and everyone else who is working on putting together this incredible event. We're so excited to bring the creative spirit of Collingwood to life. Full website is www.collingwoodartcrawl.com, and the Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/CollingwoodArtCrawl/
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE:
This Sunday, Simcoe Street Theatre's "Music for a Sunday" series is kicking off. This year, there will be a series of Sunday afternoon concerts from well-established bands, ranging a wide variety of genres, as well as a series of Sunday evening concerts from local emerging acts! For example, Decklan Funston and the Aidan Funston Trio will be performing this Sunday, September 24th, at 7:30pm. Here's a video of them, coincidentally, playing at last year's Collingwood Art Crawl!
Here's the full lineup:
I have listened to each of these bands (and I'm in one of them--Honeymoon Phase), and I can guarantee that these are all going to be really special shows. The afternoon acts that they're bringing in are exceptional players. Henry Heillig, Payadora Tango Ensemble... these are some seriously hardworking, dedicated, inspiring musicians. As for the evening "emerging artists" series, on a personal level, this opportunity is exciting for me because it's not often that I get the chance to play my original music, let alone in such a gorgeous theatre. We're going to bring in some extra accompaniment for the show and really have fun with it. And I imagine that a lot of the other Sunday evening artists, like Decklan Funston and Sohayla Smith, feel the same.

It's really going to be an amazing weekend for the art scene in Collingwood. If you have any questions about any of this stuff, or want to find tickets to any of these things, you can reach out to me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org. I also love connecting with people via Facebook and Instagram, both of which are @route26ontario.
