Another long weekend to cap off Summer 2019! I was talking with my coworkers today about how even though we’re not in school anymore, September is always a shift back to the regular routine, the daily grind, and a little more seriousness.
So this last weekend of August is sort of like the last weekend to throw caution to the wind. Agree?
There are a few things around Collingwood this weekend that I wanted to especially point out :).
Thursday, August 29
Emily Burgess & the Emburys at Harbour Street (Collingwood) 7:30-10:30
This woman is badass. She is a Humber music grad, original blues singer-songwriter, and frontwoman for this killer band. Check out all her accolades here: http://www.theemburys.com/
Sure to be an awesome night of great tunes, dancing, and beer.
Friday, August 30th
Adam & Fran Webster at Huron Club (Collingwood)
I have highlighted these guys individually, but this father-son duo is a sight to behold when they (rarely) perform together. You can tell that music is in the blood.
The first time I met them (as well as the rest of the Webster clan) was at a bonfire 4 years ago. I was like… “Oh my god, is everyone in Collingwood a phenomenal musician?” That was actually the beginning of the thought process for Route 26.
So, yeah, go see these guys and shake their hands!
The Vaudevillian at Crow (Collingwood) 9:30-midnight
I just love these guys. They’re a blast. Something completely different from the normal music you go out and see, and they do it with keen ears for the style and composition of their genre (which they describe as 1930s Jugband Blues).
Saturday, August 31st AND Sunday, September 1st
Skydive Wasaga Canadian National Parachuting Championships
Yes, you read that correctly. Skydive/parachute competitions, and live music, at Wasaga Beach. Describe to me a more epic summer weekend. I’ll wait.
I don’t know the full lineup of music, but I know that Shane Cloutier, Johnny Toonice (full reggae band), and Shipyard Kitchen Party are all playing across the two day championships.
Also, my boyfriend (who is playing saxophone for Toonice), has agreed to skydive in lieu of receiving gig money. Soooo pray for him please (and me whilst I’m watching and crying from the safe, safe, flat, ground).
So, get your party pants on!
Or party hat, or skirt, or bathing suit, or… birthday suit? No, scratch that last one.
And get out there this weekend and live it up before we get into the ‘back-to-school’ grind next week.
