Who's playing this weekend? July 4-7

Well I definitely have a case of the Tuesdays after that long weekend. How about you?

At least it’s a short work week, and we can get back to chilling in the sunshine with live music again this weekend! There’s a lot going on now that school’s out and the summer months are in full swing, so stay tuned to the calendar.

Also, if you ever have an event that you don’t see on the calendar, you can submit it here. I will review and get it posted for you within a day or two.

Here are a few picks (this weekend is difficult because there’s a lot going on!) that I recommend for music in the area:

Thursday, July 4

Marshall Veroni and Emma Elena Grace at Heartwood Hall (Owen Sound) 8:30PM

Marshall Veroni is an Owen Sound based singer-songwriter with a wicked album titled In Fields. Linking his site here so that you can immediately check it out. This show will kick off a larger Canadian tour that he’s doing this month, before returning in August for Summerfolk. Sure to be an amazing show with some brilliant local talent. If you’re in the Owen Sound area on Thursday, go.

NOTE This is a ticketed event. More details here.

Just a taste:

Friday, July 5

Apollo Suns at Crow. Bar & Variety (Collingwood) 9PM

Friday night is for funk/jazz/R&B and good vibes. Here ya go.

No cover at Crow, but DO FEED THE JUG. Tip your musicians! Especially when there are a thousand of them on stage, like this 7 piece band.

JULY 5 LIVE - Downtown Owen Sound

Mosey up to Owen Sound to check out Arts & Culture mixed with local businesses. There’s a full list of the stuff going on posted here. The one that excites me the most is Dave Grenon, the drone-thusiast soundscape artist of the duo Joyful Joyful, who will be performing at Milkmaid from 6-9pm. Oh, and they’re serving Coffin Ridge wine, sooooo like this is actually my ideal date night.

Sweet sweet sweet drones…

Saturday, July 6

Decklan Funston Quartet at Simcoe Street Theatre (Collingwood) 8PM

Decklan and Aidan Funston are brothers who were raised in Collingwood and both attended Humber College for their excellent jazz program (Aidan for guitar and Decklan for saxophone). They’re both back in town for a bit, and this show is bound to be freaking GREAT. As someone who has recently swam more into the deep end of listening to different types of jazz, I’m stoked to see this mix of standards and modern compositions. They will kill it.

NOTE This is a ticketed event. More details here.

Here’s a video I found of Decklan just casually nailing the standard East of the Sun:

Craig Cardiff at Heartwood Hall (Owen Sound) 8PM

Craig Cardiff is an infectious and prolific Ontario songwriter who is probably one of the most hardworking troubadours in the biz. He is constantly travelling around the province (and country, and continent) doing intimate and inspiring shows, as well as songwriting workshops. Join the cult!

Highly recommend.

NOTE This is a ticketed event. Details here.

Have fun this weekend!

I will be in Peterborough for a day (visiting my puppy who is coming home in 2 weeks!), but I want to get back in time to check out some of this great local live music. SO EXCITED!
